... and immediately afterwards, on the tarmac at the 911th Airlift Wing U.S. Air Force Reserve Base in Moon Township, Pennsylvania ...

It was a great airshow and the Thunderbirds were in tip-top form. Our little group was escorted by none other than the vice-wing command of the 57 Fighter Wing, Colonel Mark Amidon. The Thunderbirds belong to the 57th and thus "the Birds" come under Mark. He returned to Pittsburgh with the Thunderbirds for this show.. The 57th Fighter Wing is based in Nevada, not far from Las Vegas. He graduated from the USAF Acadey just as women were being admitted As the father of a daughter, I teased Mark about the women in the Thunderbirds. The number 3 position is flown by a woman and my constant comment to Mark was, "see, woman can fly fast!" Mark, the constant fighter pilot (F-16) could only smile, look at the sky and agree. I started working with Mark on going to USAFA when he was in the 7th grade. How time moves when you are having fun
